Looking for your first job? Want to get a foot in the door of hospitality without the pressure of customer service? Or dreaming of working in a kitchen and learning real skills that can take you places?

Chop4Change is a hands-on, back-of-house hospitality program designed just for young people who want to gain skills, confidence and real work experience, even if you’ve faced challenges finding work before.

The program is for young people aged 15-24 who:

  • Want to learn real hospitality skills behind the scenes in a commercial kitchen
  • Have faced barriers like mental health challenges, disability, neurodivergence or social disadvantage
  • Want to build confidence, make friends and step into meaningful work
  • Are keen to know more about what opportunities are out there for employment in commercial kitchens.

Funded by the Australian Government Department of Social Services, Chop4Change is all about giving you the tools, mentoring and support to make your next step into employment easier, and way more exciting.

What you'll do

When you join, you'll get to:

Work behind the scenes in a real kitchen, learning back-of-house skills that employers are looking for

Be mentored and supported by a Youth Coach and industry pros every step of the way

Build your confidence, motivation and work-ready skills

Learn workplace expectations, teamwork and what it really takes to succeed

Complete real placements to gain hands-on experience and show off your skills

Join a friendly, supportive community of young people who get it, with access to Youth Projects' holistic support programs

I felt kind of lost and anxious about what to do… The program helped me find my voice and confidence. Even if I don’t stay in hospitality forever, the skills I learned will help me in whatever I choose to do next
