We’re working with unemployed youth throughout Melbourne’s north west region find confidence, skills and opportunities for the future.

Because our focus is youth we know how to identifying their interests, strengths and help build the self-confidence needed to break out of long term unemployment.

In fact, this region of Melbourne is one of the nation’s “hot spots” of youth unemployment so our Transition to Work team is dedicated to ensuring  teens get the help they need early. Too often, problems become entrenched when they don’t need to.

Youth Projects newly renovated Youth Transition Centre is a multipurpose, friendly space for young people to feel at home.  That’s why we’ve been so successful  in getting young people into work or training.

Changing young lives for the future

We know many kids who don’t complete school have had a negative experience in the classroom and school ground. Any wonder so many are reluctant to be in that environment again.

Our Youth Transition Centre builds both vocational and non-vocational skills such as expression, creativity and self worth. It’s a welcoming place that includes a barista station, activities space, audio-visual equipment and flexible learning areas.

Our connected services makes it easy to access apprenticeships and accredited vocational training and education on site. There’s also help with drug counselling and mental health if needed. This means it’s so much easier for young people to get the support they need because it’s all in one place.

The TtW program is funded by the federal government, is voluntary and quickly helps young school leavers return to school, training or find employment. Without help many young people can easily fall into a life long pattern of unemployment, poverty and exclusion.

Knowing what makes a difference to youth

Our Transition to Work service helps young people understand employer’s needs and develop the skills, attitudes and behaviours that will most help them such as:

  • Develop practical skills to get a job
  • know what employers want
  • Connect with education or training
  • Find and participate in work experience opportunities
  • Know where the local job opportunities are
  • Connect with relevant local community services.
